San Pedro

One of the main attractions of the Pedro Moncayo canton are the San Pedro festivities that are celebrated from June 28 and 29, as part of the festivities the residents of the canton "take over the plaza" of the cantonal capital Tabacundo, in the middle of the hubbub of inspiring couplets, accompanied by the sound of guitars, bells and rondines.

The harvest festivals are held in the last two weeks of June, they chose this season to thank Mother Earth and the Sun God for the crops received.

These festivals are held with the harvest parade, popular bulls and craft fairs. One of the characters that stands out in these festivities is El Aruchico.

A parade that arrives at the popular La Banda square, marking the beginning of this festival that is establishing itself as a festival of Tabacund identity.

The festival of San Pedro, which takes the name of the same saint and the sun, involves social manifestations where symbols of stories of conquest (small towns) and resistance (towns not deeply linked to the tax structure) merge; observed in clothing, dance and music.

  Mojanda lagoons One of the most beautiful natural settings in Imbabura and Pichincha. The Mojanda Tabacundo Lagoon is surrounded by grasslands and remnants of native forests that maintain a biodiversity representative of the northern Andean moors. The lake complex is made up of three lagoons, the first and largest known as Caricocha or male lagoon which is of volcanic origin, next to this lagoon are two other smaller ones, the Huarmicocha or female lagoon and the Yanacocha or black lagoon, all of them will achieve transmit the tranquility of its waters and the life of its surroundings. On the map of Ecuador you can find it on the provincial border between Pichincha and Imbabura, in the mountain region of Ecuador at the foot of the Fuya Fuya hill at 4,263 meters above sea level; passing the town of Pedro Moncayo, 17 km south of Otavalo.

  Protective forest Jerusalem The Jerusalem protective forest was declared a PROTECTIVE FOREST AND VEGETATION in 1980. It is the only largest protected dry forest in the Northern Andes of Ecuador, at an altitude of 2400 meters above sea level. Species of flora and fauna have lived here for thousands of years and several of them are threatened, vulnerable and in danger of extinction. It has 8 easily accessible guided and self-guided trails, two of them are interpretive with Braille structure. From the North Pan-American Highway (pisque river bridge sector), you take the road that leads to the parish of Malchinguí, in front of the entrance to the Santa Eulalia neighborhood, you will find the Jerusalém protective forest.
